Country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki has launched a limited edition of the Eeco called the Eeco Smiles. Maruti has given cosmetic updates to the MPV(Multi Purpose Vehicle) while the mechanical details remains then same. Maruti expects some boost in sales with the limited edition variant offering much needed features like music system and speakers.
The Maruti Eeco is powered by a 1196 cc, 1.2-litre petrol motor which produces a peak power of 73 bhp at 6000 rpm and maximum torque of 101 Nm at 3000 rpm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. As per the ARAI figures, the Maruti Eeco(petrol) returns a mileage of 15.1 km/l. The Eeco is available in petrol + CNG version too, which promises a mileage of 20 kms/kg. Unlike the other vehicles in India, Eeco’s engine is placed under it's front seats.
The special edition comes with an additional price of Rs. 9490/- over the regular variant. The special edition got new features which includes double-din audio system with USB connectivity, 15 cm speakers, dual tone seat covers, full wheel covers, black floor mats, mud flaps and 'Eeco smiles' body graphics.
The Maruti Suzuki launched Eeco in 2010 as a facelift for the Maruti Versa minivan. The Versa was a complete failure in India, so Maruti changed its name. The Eeco provides a solution to a uniquely Indian requirement by being a budget four wheeler, with the capacity to transport up to seven people.
When compared to Maruti Omni, the Eeco adds a power steering, air conditioning and more spacious interiors. Maruti also sells an ambulance variant of the Eeco, highlighting the versatility of this mini van. The sub 4 meter length Eeco is easy to handle and park in congested areas. The CNG variant of Eeco is very popular in taxi segment of Indian market.
The Eeco smile five-seater with air-conditioning has been priced at Rs. 3.32 lakh and without air-conditioning is available at 3.63 lakh while the seven seater without air-conditioning is priced at Rs. 3.49 lakh.
