Toyota Kirloskar Motor has expanded its Fortuner range with the introduction of a cheaper, top-end variant of the popular SUV.
The new version of the Fortuner is powered by a 2,494cc four cylinder diesel power plant, which puts out 170bhp at 3600rpm and 343Nm of torque at 1600-2800rpm. The SUV is being offered with two options - a five speed manual transmission and a five speed automatic transmission. However, it is available only as a rear-wheel drive and there is no four-wheel drive option.
Most of the features that come along with the Fortuner 3.0L, are available on the 2.5L. However, HID headlamps, cruise control and navigation system with voice recognition have been left out. The Toyota Racing Development (TRD) body package is being offered as standard in the Fortuner 2.5L. The kit features a dual-tone radiator grille, dual-tone front and rear bumper spoiler, body graphics, side skirts and a roof-mounted rear spoiler and muffler cutter.
The Fortuner is currently available in four distinct variants: 4x2 MT, 4x4 MT, 4x2 AT and 4x4 AT. Apart from this, TKM also offers a TRD Sportivo bodykit on the SUV. While TKM hasn't announced the exact changes on the MPV, and nor does the website provide any further details, the Innova-according to the dealers-is now equipped with dual SRS airbags as a standard on all variants.
The 2.5L is available in two colours only - super white and silver metallic. The quoted price for the Fortuner 2.5L 4x2 MT is Rs. 24.44 lakh, while the Fortuner 2.5L 4x2 AT would be available at Rs. 25.44 lakh.
