Chevrolet plans to increase the competition faced by the Toyota Fortuner , Mitsubishi Pajero and the upcoming Ford Endeavour, with the possible launch of Chevy's SUV called the Trailblazer.
The SUV was recently spotted in several areas across India for research and development purposes. Though there hasn't been any official updates on the launch of the new version of the SUV, from this kind of move the company has made, it is quite evident that the Chevrolet Trailblazer would be hitting the Indian roads soon, most probably by the second half of 2015.
The new SUV would be featuring a 2.8-litre Duramax diesel engine with four cylinders and sixteen valves, which is expected to deliver 144KW power and 500Nm of torque at 2000rpm. This high-performing and fuel-efficient engine makes use of a direct-injection system, Variable Geometry Turbocharger along with an intercooler to give a lift to the torque at low revolutions. A choice for the drivetrains is offered on the SUV – a five-speed manual transmission and a six-speed automatic transmission which supports an electronic shift control along with clutch-to-clutch capability and an electro-hydraulic control module.
On the exterior, the Trailblazer gets a muscular tone with the characteristic three-dimensional grille mesh which makes the vehicle a definite stand out among the crowd. The manufacturer General Motors, claims this design to be a perfect blend of design and luxury, while giving importance to the safety features offered in the SUV. The Trailblazer gets the following safety features this year:
- Electronic Stability Control
- Anti-lock braking System
- Hydraulic Brake Assist
- Traction Control
- Dynamic Rear Brake Proportioning
- Electronic Brake-force Distribution
- Panic Brake Assist
- Engine Drag Control
- Hill Descent Control
- Driver and Occupant Air Bag Protection
On the interior side, the Trailblazer gets a flowing instrument panel within a standardized Chevrolet dual cockpit design. A typical seven-seater vehicle, this SUV also features a three-row tumble and fold-flat seat versatility besides the quite sufficient space in the third row. Additional features include an auxiliary power plug with USB and Bluetooth connectivity and a dual-zone, digital climate control system.
If at all the Trailblazer is launched in India, it would be a definite winner in SUV segment, thus bringing up the market value of Chevrolet SUVs. The estimated price of this vehicle would be around Rs 17-22 lakhs.
The launch of the Trailblazer is expected after Chevrolet brings in units for R&D purposes.
