The Grand Scenic, which has quite a resemblance to the Innova, has been caught on testing roads without a camouflage, and this isn't the first time the MPV has been caught red-handed by the auto-paparazzi.
With the Renault Lodgy to be launched soon in the MPV segment, there is no way that another MPV would be launched by Renault so soon. So chances are that the spotted Renault Grand Scenic could be a benchmarking product for a competitor in the MPV segment.
Mahindra and Hyundai, are the top suspects for this as the two are on the run for launching an MPV in their league, of which the former is quite famous for testing its rivals' products. The Grand Scenic, which was introduced to the world in 2009, has grabbed several Car of the Year awards in both the hatchback and MPV segments.
In the international market, the Grand Scenic comes with an engine option of four petrol and diesel engines, which consist of a 1.2 litre turbo delivering a maximum power output of 115bhp and 1.6 litre VTVT petrol power plant delivering a maximum power output of 110bhp. This MPV also comes with a 1.5 litre dCi unit and a more powerful 1.6 litre diesel engine that delivers a power output of 130bhp.
The Renault Grand Scenic is a perfect seven seater MPV, which has additional facilities such as an option to slide and recline the middle row and the back row, to enable proper utilisation of all the boot space available in this MPV.
Since the spotting of this MPV is suspected to be a benchmarking of the product, chances of this vehicle being launched in India are too low. However, if at all Renault plans on introducing this vehicle in the MPV segment in India, it would be for an estimated price of Rs 12-15 lakhs, thus posing some serious competition for the current king in the segment, Toyota Innova.
