The weight of the Audi R8 V10 Plus has been dropped due to the new Audi space frame, handling of the vehicle is redefined by the quattro setup. Other than the four driving modes of the R8 the V10 Plus has added three new modes such as ideal grip on dry roads, wet roads and snow. In both the engine versions, power is transmitted through a quick shift seven-speed S-tronic transmission placed behind the engine. The S-tronic has three automatic modes and it can be controlled manually if desired. The launch control system manages full throttle from the still start. S-tronic function acts when the driver's foot is removed from the accelerator pedal at speeds above 55Km, both clutches open and the car goes into coasting mode. This is a fuel saving function and would help the driver for the daily run. Permanent all wheel drive system quattro, gives the new R8 a plus mark in terms of stability and traction when compared with two-wheel drive competitions. The newly developed quattro system acts as a mediator to deliver balanced amount of torque to the front and rear wheels, this ultimately depends on the driving behavior and the weather.
The key factor of the lightweight construction is the body shell with multi-material ASF(Audi Space Frame). The ASF body shell features a completely new lightweight construction concept. This concept is evident in most of the sports cars at present, every maker tries their maximum to reduce the weight of the car for a better performance. Components made from carbon fiber reinforced plastics from the B-pillars, the central tunnel and the rear wall. The interior is completely new and apart from the seating position in this mid-engined sports car nothing looks like the past Audi R8. The driver cockpit offers a new feature, Audi Virtual Cockpit with a large digital display replacing the needles and dials. The bottom flat steering wheel features a cluster of buttons and the start button has been accommodated to the steering newly. Audi offers different looks as optional for the customers to choose from traditional to futuristic.
