Giving an end to all rumors and constant debates, BMW has confirmed the launch of 1 series by 2013. BMW India's Chennai facility will assembles the 1-series which already assembled 3 series and 5 series sedans, the X1 compact SUV and the diesel X3.
While the technical specification of 1-series is concerned, the four wheeler will be equipped with a 1596cc engine. The 1 series engine offers two choices: 1.6 liter petrol which has a power of 136bhp and 170bhp, while 2 liter diesel engine is producing 116bhp, 143bhp and 184bhp depending on its variants.
The 1 series comes with well appointed interiors and exteriors, a setback passenger cabin and a sharply chiseled rear. The BMW 1 series is pitting against the new Mercedes Benz A Class. As both are premium cars and lies in the new price segment.
The car itself is a premium hatchback and boasts of the best of BMW’s DNA. BMW 1 series is quite fit to those who are looking for perfect driver's machine.
Assembling the products locally draws lower duty than CBU, which allow the BMW India to price rather aggressively. Currently Chennai's plant has 11000 units per annum manufacturing capacity, which will increase when BMW series hike the demands.
The 1 series is smallest and most affordable car from BMW series. The car will be available at a price range of around 18-20 lakh.
