Mahindra Reva e2o to be Launched in Early 2013

Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicle Private Limited had officially revealed its car called “Mahindra e2o”. The Electric car earlier had a project code name called NXR. The Mahindra had showcased the car as Reva NXR in the 2012 Auto Expo held at New Delhi. The electric vehicle has undergone extensive testing, validation and has been certified as road worthy in India



According to Mahindra, the e2o is a result of the group's vision of the “future mobility”. It involves the creation of future-ready vehicles that involves the 5Cs framework– clean, convenient, connected, clever and cost effective.

"The Mahindra e2o is the first step in the creation of an entire electric vehicle value chain and ecosystem by the Mahindra Group," said a company spokesperson.



The Mahindra still continues the trend of naming its vehicle with the end of “o”. The Mahindra e2o has been named keeping in mind the Mahindra Reva philosophy of “inspired by orange to go green” for sustainable living. The car will be pronounced as ‘Ee-too-oh’. The 'e' in the name e2o stands for energy of the sun which is abundant and clean, '2' denotes 'to' signifies the connected technologies in the car and 'o' represents 'Oxygen', the life force that sustains all of our existence on the Earth

The Mahindra e2o will use next generation Lithium-Ion Batteries, which has a capacity of powering the car for about 100km in a single charge. The e2o can be charged via a 15amp plug point, is also capable of charging via sunlight.

We are on the threshold of ushering in a new paradigm across the automotive value chain, by bringing in products and mobility solutions which will bear testimony to our commitment to create a cleaner environment on planet Earth. This is significant step towards creating a comprehensive eco-system of sustainable mobility solutions, encompassing alternative technologies such as electric, hybrid and fuel cells into our research, development and commercialization plans”.



The Mahindra e2o is actually a two door car with four seats. The e20 will be equipped with an air conditioner, power steering, music system and a power outlet.

The Mahindra's e2o will be produced at the Mahindra Reva's recently inaugurated plant in Bengaluru. This is India's first platinum certified automobile plant. According to the company the plant has an annual production capacity of 30,000 cars. The expected cost of the car is around 5 to 5.6 lakh.



As the price of petrol and diesel is increasing day to day, the demand of electric cars will also increase. Mahindra & Mahindra has invested Rs.2500 crore in the electric vehicle plan so far. Support from the government is very essential in this type of project. The National Mission for Electric Mobility (NMEM) is expected to announce further benefits that could deliver a substantial benefit to makers of electric cars.
