Jeep Introduces 2014 model Cherokee, Compass and Patriot

Jeep has given updates to the Cherokee, Compass and Patriot SUVs for the year 2014. The 2014 Grand Cherokee which starts production in early 2013 will come with modification in both the interior and exterior. The model will have a revised set of shorter grilles, a revised front end, a front bumper with new fog lamps and smaller headlights.



When the interior changes is concerned, it comes with eight-speed automatic gearbox, 8.4 inch infotainment system, new electric gear selector, revised centre console, a 7-inch digital configurable instrument cluster and other measures to save fuel.



The vehicle is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel, 3.6-litre V6 petrol and 5.7-litre V8 engine. The most striking news regarding the 2014 Grand Cherokee is the Eco-Diesel V6 getting up to 730 miles on a single tank.

Mike Manley, the president and CEO of Jeep said, ”In 2012 despite a relatively quiet year from a product introduction perspective, Jeep set a new, all-time sales record beating our old 1999 record of 675,000 vehicles by selling over 700,000”. And by 2014, Jeep is expecting a sell of over 8,00,000 globally.



The Grand Cherokee SRT comes with new interior color and black headlights on exterior. According to Jeep, when paired with the eight speed automatic transmission on two-wheel-drive models, the vehicle get a mileage of 21 mpg in city and 30 mpg in highway. The combination gives more than 730 miles to the Grand Cherokee. Where the four-wheel-drive models get a mileage of 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

"I've probably have received hundreds of emails and letters in the last three years asking for diesel, and so finally it's great to be able say here you go, this is the first one," Manley added.



The 2014 Jeep Compass and Patriot comes with a six-speed automatic gear transmission. The transmission, sourced from PowerTech uses a noise-resistant gears thereby it tries to avoid the issues like noise, vibration and harshness suffered by the old CVT equipped models. The 2014 Jeep Compass will be available in three options: Sport, Latitude and Limited. All of these are available in front-wheel drive, the Freedom Drive I full-time active 4x4 system or the Freedom Drive II off-road full-time active 4x4 system with low-range capability.



The minor changes for the Compass includes 18-inch wheel option, trim pieces around the car and a back-up camera. The Patriot gets no changes other than the addition of front seat-mounted airbags.

While the Standard option, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine comes with 158 hp and 141 lb-ft of torque. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine produces 172 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque. When mated to the five speed manual, the 2.0 litre engine achieves a mileage of 23 mpg in city and 30 mpg in highway. The five-speed manual in two-wheel and four-wheel-drive of the 2.4 litre engine achieves a mileage of 23 mpg in the city and 28 mpg in the highway.



A low-viscosity fluid is used to improve fuel economy. Also the Jeep claims that the transmission will reduce maintenance cost. While the price of Compass is not revealed yet, the price of Grand Cherokee is higher than other models in this class of vehicles and the price of Patriot ranges almost 8.6 lakhs.
