Solar E-Rickshaws Launched In Kochi

Nowadays, pollution from automobiles have been a serious talking point in all major cities. New Delhi is one fine example for this scenario. Cities like Bangalore, Mumbai and even Kochi is under serious threats of increasing Air and Noise pollution. A major part of this pollution are caused by public transports, especially Diesel driven buses, cars and rickshaws. In order to control this cause to some extend, governing bodies are on the verge of introducing CNG powered and electrically driven public transport vehicles. Taking this as an opportunity as well as the time to change, Lifeway Solar Devices Pvt Ltd has introduced their latest offering in Kerala, in the form of Solar E-Rickshaws



Lifeway Solar is an initiative headed by Mr.Georgekutty Kariyanappally based in Kochi. They are pioneers in developing some of the solar powered products in India. Starting from Solar Lanterns to Solar powered Poultry Incubator and Milking machine. The latest and most exciting product from this group is their new solar powered rickshaw. By joining hands with Goenko Electric Motor vehicles and Lohia Auto they had launched first solar powered electric rickshaw dealership in Kochi. The new dealership at Kochi marks the beginning of a new era in automotive world of the State, as people are too dependent on their local public transport. The newly opened showroom in Kochi (to be exact Edappally Toll) showcases few models in passenger and cargo segments. They deals with sales, registration, financial aids, service and maintenance of vehicles under one roof.



Lohia Auto and Goenko Electric vehicles have been manufacturing and distributing electric scooters and rickshaws throughout the country. It is the first time their models are equipped with a solar installation to make it more user friendly and convenient charging. For a city like Kochi, the number of people depending on public transport system is way above the other South Indian cities. According to the Lifeway group, their new rickshaws are far more economical than the conventional Diesel driven rickshaws. Studies shown that, running costs of conventional rickshaws are Rs 2.75 per km, meanwhile electric rickshaws are capable of doing it at Rs 0.25 per km.



The powertrain of these rickshaws are 1.5kW DC Motor with 100 Ah Lithium-ion battery. At a full charge it can go upto 80km and with the solar panel, it could go upto 100km in one single ride. The newly opened dealership showcases the passenger and cargo variants of the model “Narain” from Lohia Auto. It also has a fibre-reinforced plastic bodied passenger rickshaw called “Prince”. This was one has a seating capacity of 5-7 people, with a maximum load capacity of 300 kg. The cargo variant has a load capacity of 320kg. All the models are priced under 2 lakhs and final pricing is yet to be known.
