Chevrolet Sail Sedan Launched at a Starting Price of Rs.4.99 Lakh

General Motors India launched the Chevrolet Sail sedan in New Delhi on 1st February 2013. While the petrol variants of the sedan will be available at a price range of Rs 4.99 to 6.41 lakh and the diesel variants will range from Rs 6.29 to 7.51 lakh. Sail sedan is the company's very first vehicle to launch this year. Like hatchback, the Sail Sedan will be more spacious.



In Chinese market, Sail sedan has an annual sales of over half a million units. GM India would be hoping to garner atleast 10% of that in India. The Sail Sedan is one of the fastest growing entry level sedan segment in India. Growing at the rate of 40% over the last three years, the sale comes close to 40,000 units a month.



Anil Mehrotra, CFO, General Motors India said "We are hoping to create excitement in the market with new launches like Sail and we hope to garner a significant share in the entry level sedan market."

Engine and Specification:
The Sail sedan petrol version is powered by a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder engine which delivers a maximum power of 86 PS at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 113 Nm at 4400 rpm. Whereas the diesel variant is powered by 1.3 litre Multijet engine(sourced from Fiat) which develops a maximum power of 78 PS at 4000 rpm and a peak torque of 205 Nm at 1750 rpm. The Sail sedan comes mated with a five speed gearbox. Both the transmission and suspension were specially tuned for Indian road conditions, maintains the sharp driving dynamics. The vehicle claims a mileage of 22.1 kmpl.



Safety features:
Sail sedan gives much importance to its safety features, which includes Speed sensitive Auto Door Locks, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), passive safety features are Airbags, Seat Belts with Pre-tensioner, Crumple Zones, Collapsible Steering System & Side Impact Beams in the doors.

The Sail sedan facilities the features like comfortable ride, oodles of boot space (370 litres) and efficient power plants in both petrol and diesel variants. The Sail sedan will be available in variety of colors- Velvet Red, Switchblade Silver, Summit White, Caviar Black, Linen Beige, Sandrift Grey and Misty Lake. Chevrolet Sail sedan will compete with Maruti Suzuki's Swift Dzire, Toyota Etios, Ford Classic, Mahindra Verito and Tata Indigo eCS.
