It is the second generation of Tiguan, that has come to India. VW has introduced two variants for this SUV, the Comfortline, and Highline with a pricing of Rs 27.68 lakh and Rs 31.04 lakh (both are Ex-showroom Mumbai) respectively. The delivery will commence from 2017 June as prior booking of the model has already begun.
Under The Hood
VW has used a 1968cc, 2.0 TDI, Turbocharged powertrain with a common rail direct injection system. The mill churns out a maximum power of 143 Ps @ 4000 rpm and a peak torque of 340 Nm @ 1750-2750 rpm. The engine is mated with their famous 7-speed automatic DSG transmission box with 4Motion (all-wheel drive) technology. With the withdrawal of Passat from the Indian line-up, Tiguan will lead the entire pack with its high performance and high capacity engine. According to VW, Tiguan is one of the most economical SUV with a mileage of 17.06 kmpl. The fuel tank capacity of Tiguan is 71 litres.
The Design and Structure
The all-new Tiguan is based on the VWs newly developed modular transverse matrix, known as the MQB platform used for front engined, front wheel drive vehicles. It is one innovative product from the brand which can underpin small-sized sedans to large SUVs. And Tiguan is the first SUV to be made on this platform. Unlike other SUVs in the Indian market, it doesn't have any aggressive styling or overly shaped body structure. Like the predecessor Toureg and Atlas, it is a simple and more mature looking SUV. But it resembles some of its styling features from the popular Passat and Golf GTI. Especially the front grille and the iconic body lines that running from head to tail boosts up the SUV silhouette.
One of the iconic family element such as Chrome finished grille along with the compact-shaped LED headlamp looks pretty decent. LED headlamp is accompanied by LED DRls, which is found in Audi and high-end VWs. This SUV weighs 2250 kg and it measures 4486mm in length and 1839mm wide.

Being a flagship model, Tiguan is feature studded SUV. VW has imposed all available advanced features in this model to put out a real fight against the rivals such as Ford Endeavour, New Toyota Fortuner, Upcoming Skoda Kodiaq (sibling) and the new Isuzu MU-X. Some of its cool features such as Auto Dim IRVM and 3-zone automatic climate control system is unique to the Tiguan. moreover, it is compatible with the Google's Android Auto and Apple's Car Play system. Volkswagen cars are well efficient in their safety standards. And the new Tiguan gets Hill decent control mode, pedestrian protection-reactive hood and 6-air bags for collision protection.
Some of its convenience features include front centre armrest with storage space, large front boot space, panoramic sunroof, 8-inch LCD touch screen infotainment media and drive mode selector. This 5-seater SUV gets a 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with several control buttons such as telephone and music system.
Suspension System and Braking
Tiguan features one of the most tried and tested McPherson Strut type suspension with lower transverse link and stabilizer bar at the front and it uses Multi-Link suspension system at the rear. The Comfortline features 17-inch alloy wheels while Highline gets 18-inch alloy wheels. Stopping force of the vehicle is controlled by disc brakes at 4 wheels.
